GOLD™ Customers Meet in La Jolla

GOLD™ customers participating in the 1st annual GOLD™ User Group Meeting held in La Jolla on April 5 – 7 agreed on one thing, “I’m coming back next year!” Based on consistent feedback from attendees, the conference format facilitated a good exchange of ideas and information between GOLD™ customers and MIRO managers, and among customers themselves. Sixty people representing over twenty GOLD™ customers attended the three-day conference held at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla.

Day one of the conference featured presentations by MIRO staff on the company’s strategic focus, functionality enhancements, implementation, deployment, support and technology evolution. MIRO’s president, Vincent Monteparte, described the company’s vision and mission, outlined the significant events of the past year, and set the pace for the conference. “This seminal GOLD™ User Group Meeting is a pivotal event in executing MIRO’s strategic direction,” he said. “This is our clarion call to continue to focus on our customers.”

UK MOD Celebrates 500th Aircraft on WRAM

MIRO Technologies and the UK Ministry of Defence co-hosted an event last month in Yeovilton to commemorate the 500th aircraft managed by MIRO’s Work Recording and Asset Management (WRAM) system. The 500 aircraft are all military helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in service with the Royal Navy and Army.

The event at the museum was well attended by Royal Navy, Army, RAF and Civil Service personnel, all of whom had worked together over the past eleven years on the project. Brigadier Flint presented a model of the Lynx Mk7, the 500th aircraft added to the system, to the Lynx project team leader, Captain David Evans, RN.

The Brigadier also presented an identical Lynx model to Vincent Monteparte, President of MIRO Technologies, to symbolize the successful WRAM program at MOD.

AuRA™ moves forward at SAS

Major Cost Savings Projected by SAS Executive

The AuRA enterprise solution previously announced for SAS Group is now moving to the final system project planning and implementation phase for Scandinavian Airlines. This news follows the successful completion of an AuRA proof-of-concept in Stockholm. Based on the enterprise deal, all other SAS Group subsidiary airlines, third-party airlines and affiliates will have the opportunity to benefit from AuRA implementations in subsequent phases.

Ulf Nystrom, head of Technical Operations at Scandinavian Airlines said, “The AuRA implementation will give us the powerful system we need to strengthen our maintenance and engineering operations and substantially improve efficiency and lower costs.” He added, “This new MRO system solution will save us millions of dollars annually in systems operations and maintenance.” Nystrom noted that about 15% of the projected savings can be attributed to the operation and administration of the old legacy MRO system being replaced.

GOLD™ Implemented at AIC

MIRO Technologies’ GOLD™ software was successfully implemented at Aerospace Integration Corporation (AIC), Crestview, FL in support of the Aircrew Information Mapping System (AIMS) for the AC-130H gunship for the US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

GOLD was selected by AIC for its robust inventory management capabilities and ability to communicate seamlessly with DOD legacy supply systems, like the USAF Standard Base Supply System. AIC is a uniquely diversified, high technology company delivering leading-edge solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD).

“AIC recognized GOLD software as an extremely powerful and versatile tool for managing CSWS logistics data relating to item-management responsibilities,” said AIC Director of Logistics Howard Hill. “GOLD software enables AIC to exchange essential logistics data with government agencies in standard DoD formats. The GOLD suite of logistics software has clearly enhanced support to our primary customer, the Air Force Special Operations Command,” said Hill.

Frontier Airlines Maintenance Honored by FAA

Frontier Airlines maintenance department was recently awarded the FAA’s Diamond Award, thus becoming the only US airline to win this award for six consecutive years. The Diamond Award recognizes airlines and other maintenance facilities where at least 25% of its aircraft maintenance technicians complete certified training requirements beyond their initial certification. Frontier has had 100% participation by its aircraft maintenance technicians since 1999.

Frontier Airlines went live with a full AuRA implementation in 2002. Currently, over 900 users across 12 departments perform 53 business processes at Frontier with the AuRA system. Over 400,000 part-related transactions are supported in AuRA for the 48 Airbus and Boeing aircraft in the system.

MIRO appoints CTO, Realigns ISG

MIRO Technologies recently announced the appointment of a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and realignment of the Implementation Support Group (ISG) responsible for project management, product training, data conversion and customer support. The organizational changes put into place will strengthen MIRO’s ability to meet customer needs for intelligent maintenance and logistics software and services.

The ISG realignment creates three separate functional lines, including Support Services, A&D (GOLD) Project Management and Commercial (AuRA) Project Management.

New CTO Paul Extance will be responsible for the future direction of MIRO’s product suite, including all three product lines deployed (GOLD, AuRA and WRAM). Extance joined Spirent Systems in 1995 and has held the position of Research & Development Manager since 2000.

Ralph Evans was promoted to the new position of Manager, Support Services with responsibility for the Customer Support and Product Test Groups. Evans joined the company in 1998 and has managed the Product Test Group since 2000.

Catherine Dowdle continues to lead the A&D Project Management team in La Jolla and be responsible for GOLD deployments. Dowdle joined the company in 1994 and has held progressively responsible positions, including Program Manager and Director, A&D Business Unit.

John Hancock currently heads up MIRO’s Yeovil, UK operations and will now also manage the Commercial Project Management team for worldwide AuRA implementations. Hancock has over 25 years direct maintenance and engineering experience, including positions within line and heavy maintenance organizations as well as quality departments.
