Miro, Boeing sign enterprise license agreement

Miro Technologies has signed a five-year Software License and Service Agreement with The Boeing Company. The agreement provides Boeing Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) with license rights to Miro's GOLDesp™ product line for use as a common system across base maintenance and repair, depot maintenance and modification, refurbishment and retrofit operations. GOLD is currently used by Boeing to support Contractor Logistics Support and Performance-Based Logistics programs including C-17, AH-64D, F/A-18, F-15,E-4B,T-43, CH-47, V-22, KC-135, KC-10, C-130, and B-1B.

"This new agreement continues a long-standing business relationship with Boeing," said Vincent Monteparte, CEO and President of Miro Technologies. "We look forward to working with Boeing over the next five years as they integrate our GOLDesp software into their maintenance and logistics operations."

The GOLD software package is a major Lean-operations tool used by Boeing to improve the aircraft overhaul business performed by IDS Global Services & Support (GS&S). It integrates inventory databases with shop floor management programs, allowing them to work together as a total enterprise package and eliminating paper-dependent processes. Miro will be converting the GOLD software related to this Lean system over to its GOLDesp product.

UK MoD contracts Miro for Apache HUMS integration

The UK MoD has contracted Miro Technologies for the first phase of an integration project to link the WRAM Online™ (Work Recording & Asset Management) system and the health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) for the Apache Attack helicopter program operated by the British Army. The Apache engineering and asset management is supported on WRAM Online, the UK MoD's bespoke version of Miro's flagship GOLDesp COTS application. The project will automatically take lifing data from each aircraft and update the electronic technical log to provide accurate usage data, thus providing a projected improvement of up to 20% in the intervals of scheduled maintenance to be performed.

"We are delighted to be starting this phase of what will be an exciting step forward for the Apache program," commented Vincent Monteparte, President & CEO of Miro Technologies. "We are proud to be part of a team providing improvements in aircraft availability for important weapon systems deployed in the field today. WRAM Online provides a unique capability for supporting deployed assets, un-matched in capability and proven stability. The Apache HUMS integration is part of a move to provide broader capability of coherent IT systems for the end customer. We hope it will make life easier for front-line troops and assist in keeping helicopters mission-ready."

The project integrates with the on-board HUMS system provided by GE Aviation through a ground station that downloads the flight data and fault messages from the aircraft. Additional phases are planned to introduce more sophisticated capabilities to further reduce end-user workload and provide a single-box solution for Apache ground maintenance support.

Lockheed Martin selects GOLDesp for Australian C-130J support

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, headquartered in Fort Worth, TX, recently purchased Miro Technologies' web-based GOLDesp software for use in supporting the C-130J Hercules aircraft fleet for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The Australian DoD announced in March that the Defence Materiel Organization (DMO) awarded a contract to Australian Aerospace and sub-contractor Lockheed Martin to provide Through Life Support services for the RAAF fleet of twelve C-130J Hercules aircraft. The five-year PBL contract links annual contract extensions to contractor performance and cost reduction, thereby promoting efficiency and delivering real cost savings.

GOLDesp will be used to manage the inventory of both serviceable and unserviceable parts at the various Australian operating and support bases, as well as track the reverse logistics repair pipeline as unserviceable components are removed from the aircraft and returned to Lockheed Martin and various other vendors for repair.

The RAAF operates two models of the ubiquitous Hercules medium transport, the C-130H and the C-130J. They are operated by No. 37 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Richmond, near Sydney. The Hercules is a key part of the RAAF fleet, providing medium to long range transport with an excellent short dirt runway capability, allowing it to perform tactical or strategic transport duties, search and rescue, disaster relief and medical evacuations.

Lockheed Martin currently uses Miro's GOLD software for logistics support to many different weapons systems including the F-22 Raptor, C-5 Galaxy, and C-130J Hercules (both in the U.S. and in the U.K.).

White paper: "Migrating to the DLMS"

The DoD has mandated implementation of the Defense Logistics Management System (DLMS) to replace Defense Logistics Standard Systems (DLSS) MILS transactions and processes. Phased migration to the DLMS began in 1998, yet MILS transactions continue to be widely used today throughout the DoD. What have been the hurdles preventing faster progression to the DLMS by the logistics community? Are MILS procedures still important? What benefits accrue to the war-fighter from a migration of MILS to DLMS? How will the DLMS standards capitalize on evolving commercial and industry standards to enable transformation of the logistics business enterprise?

A new white paper published by Miro Technologies answers these questions. It also explains how the use of an event-based SOA will allow the enablement of DLMS compatible supply systems and still take advantage of the advanced distributed material management process encapsulated with Miro's next-generation GOLDesp™ application.
