Based on in-depth analysis of best practices in the defence logistics industry, Frost & Sullivan has awarded Miro Technologies its 2009 European Defense Logistics Product Line Strategy Award. This industry accolade is presented annually to the company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands. Miro executives formally accepted the award at the Frost & Sullivan awards banquet in London on May 22nd.
A release by Frost & Sullivan noted that Miro's exceptional product line strategy focuses on four key aspects – end-user needs, market expansion, latest technology and effective business practices. "Continuous tracking of end user needs, a focus on retaining existing customers, timely provision of economical, high quality solutions coupled with comprehensive client training programs have underpinned the company's success," states Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Srinivas Sishtla. "Another area where Miro Technologies scores over its competitors is in providing high quality solutions at a reasonable price with a very short time to market," adds Sishtla.
"Product line strategy at Miro Technologies starts with listening and working closely with customers to understand their business issues and future supply chain needs," states Vincent Monteparte, President and CEO of Miro Technologies. "This approach, combined with agile business processes and adoption of latest technologies, have enabled us to consistently deliver quality solutions and grow our business."
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
Miro delivers WOL3 to UK MoD
HUMS interface, electronic certification, paperless logbook enabled
Major functionality enhancements were introduced to the highly successful UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Work Recording & Asset Management (WRAM Online) solution with the recent delivery of WRAM Online, Version 3 (WOL3). Many of the new capabilities of WOL3 were driven by requirements of the British Army's Watchkeeper UAV program.
WOL3 saw the introduction of a health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) interface that takes the data downloaded from a Ground Station and uses it to create sortie details in WRAM Online and to create fault arisings. This seamless capability reduces human error and inaccuracies and quickly places onboard fault data into the ground maintenance system for further work recording and reliability analysis.
Electronic certification and a paperless log book were also enabled with the delivery of WOL3. This required a major redevelopment of the Work Recording portion of WRAM Online using WEB2 technology giving tabbed entries for the various entries thus making the screen more compact and user friendly. The requirement was to replace the manual "Pen on Paper" signature method for work recording at the aircraft with a fully electronic one. This simply requires a user to enter their User ID and PIN number at predefined points within the application and removes the need for paper recording. The predefined Joint Air Publication based authorizations required to do certification will be compared to those authorizations granted to a user to tightly manage this electronic signature. Along with this function comes enhanced user security management.
White paper: Service-Enabled Maintenance & Logistics Management
With the digital battlefield now becoming more network-centric, many of the bespoke IT systems used to support defense operations in areas such as logistics are still derived from cold-war era principles, processes and architectures. Defense organizations now realize that readiness and agility may be compromised when supporting IT assets cannot flexibly respond to changing needs.
Service-enabled maintenance and logistics management solutions are now available to facilitate the enterprise integration, innovation and change needed to help manage complexity, permit controlled change and support continuous improvement. Service oriented architecture (SOA) supports interoperability between defense forces (air, land, sea) by unlocking IT resources from their application silos and making their functionality broadly available across the organization.
This paper explores both the business rationale for SOA, as well as the Miro Technologies' approach to leveraging SOA for aftermarket maintenance and logistics management solutions. Miro has combined service-oriented and event-driven architectures to provide the platform for development of an enterprise application that far exceeds the boundaries of traditional packaged applications to deliver business value.
